• Nitrogen: Nitrogen determines greenness of leaves, ability of plant to recover from damage or
stress; affects root and shoot growth (density), resistance to disease, cold, heat, and drought.
• Phosphorus: Phosphorus is the workhorse of the nutrition team; it enables the plant to utilize
energy from other sources, such as nitrogen; promotes rooting and root branching, and keeps
plant from wilting.
• Potassium: Potassium chloride helps thicken plant’s cell walls, making plant more resistant to
heat, cold, frost, and disease attack; also increases wear tolerance and encourages rooting.
